Before Monday’s first pre-season training session, Lachie Neale had never met his new midfield teammate Harley Bennell.
But the former Sun was warmly welcomed at his first official session at Fremantle Oval and among those laying out the welcome mat was Neale.
“It’s good to have him here,” Neale said after training.
“This morning was the first time I ‘d met him.
“He was in good spirits and ran quite strongly out there.”
Bennell, who was taken at pick 2 in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, came to Fremantle via a trade with the Gold Coast in October.
Neale said the 23-year-old had proven his abilities during his five years with the Suns.
“Everyone knows the talent he has,” he said.
“His speed and goal kicking ability, and his power run from stoppages.
“He will be an important piece to us and we’re excited to have him here.
“I’m looking forward to getting into the pre-season with him and the other midfielders.”
Bennell kicked 92 goals in 81 games for the Gold Coast.
