He has been labelled Fremantle’s most underrated player but everyone at the club knows how important Cam Sutcliffe is.

The defender has become a constant in the back-six for Freo in recent years, ever-reliable and consistent form has made him one of Ross Lyon’s regulars.

Sutcliffe is a throw back to bygone era of nonchalant, no nonsense players who just ‘got it done’.

The quiet achievers profile is nothing like that of Nat Fyfe, Aaron Sandilands and Matthew Pavlich, but his importance to the team is just as significant.

Milestone creeped up on Sutcliffe

His nickname ‘Squeak’ is testament to his quiet but professional personality.

“If I’m not in the spotlight it’s probably a good thing, but I really don’t mind,” he said.

“It’s probably good because the opposition teams don’t know much about me.”

Sutcliffe came to Fremantle at pick 71 in the 2011 National Draft and debuted in round 15, 2012.

He was named the club’s Player of the Finals in 2014 and won the Beacon Award in 2013.

Sutcliffe plans to head home to Kadina in rural South Australia during the mid-season for a few days respite.

“It’ll be nice to see some family and friends,” he said.

Earlier this year, Fox Footy named Sutcliffe as Fremantle’s most underrated player.

The article said the “no-nonsense defender plays his role each and every week”.
