Fremantle’s defence is still potent despite missing All Australian defender Michael Johnson, according to Lee Spurr.

Freo held Brisbane to just seven goals in trying conditions at Domain Stadium on Sunday night.

“It was really tough, the rain came really solid in that first half,” Spurr said.

“(The rain) makes it easier to defend the mark but once it hits the deck, one mistake, and they’re through.”

Spurr said while the team would love to have Johnson, who was injured in Round 10, out on the field everyone was expected to play a role.

It took time to adjust: Neale

“We train really hard and do a lot of drills on systems,” he said.

“We put a real emphasis on coming in and playing your role.

“We’re bigger than any one player.”

Spurr said Alex Pearce was impressing in defence as the second tall defender alongside veteran Luke McPharlin.

“Alex has been really solid,” he said.

“Ibbotson is standing up and Tommy Sheridan has come in well.

“Everyone is playing their role and that’s all we want.”
