Chris Mayne equalled a club record for most tackles in a single game in Sunday’s win over Brisbane and is on track to challenge another club tackling milestone.
Mayne’s tally of 14 tackles at Domain Stadium on Sunday was a personal best for the forward and equalled the club record set by Michael Barlow in 2010.
His season tackle count is already 74, equal with teammate David Mundy, and ranking him 13th in the AFL this season.
Mayne is averaging 6.2 tackles per game, the most at Fremantle, and if he continues his physical approach could challenge the club’s record for most tackles in a season of 145 set by Matt de Boer in 2013.
Mayne’s personal season high was 110 tackles in 2013.
Sunday’s combined tackle count of 235, Fremantle (114) and Brisbane (121), was the second most ever recorded in a VFL/AFL game.
