Elbow puts Dawson at MRP’s mercy

The West Australian

Zac Dawson’s AFL return could be cut short after just one match, with the key defender facing a likely suspension after Fremantle’s 21-point win over Greater Western Sydney at Domain Stadium yesterday.

Dawson is expected to be cited by the AFL match review panel this afternoon for elbowing Jeremy Cameron to the face during an ugly 12.12 (84) to 9.9 (63) victory that tightened the Dockers’ stranglehold on top spot.

Dawson left the Giants spearhead bleeding heavily from the nose in the first quarter after swinging back his right elbow and collecting Cameron to the face as the two players grappled on the ground.

Walters shines as Giants fall to Freo

The West Australian

A four-goal haul to Michael Walters has helped Fremantle see off Greater Western Sydney by 21 points at Domain Stadium this afternoon.

But they could be in trouble with the match review panel after Zac Dawson, in his first game of the year, collected Jeremy Cameron in the nose with his elbow in the first quarter.

Fremantle v GWS: Dockers secure top-two spot

WAToday

Despite being unimpressive for much of their 21-point win over the GWS Giants at Domain Stadium on Sunday, the victory has surely secured the Dockers a top-two finish.

After their nearest rivals – West Coast and Hawthorn - failed to win their respective round 18 games, the Dockers claimed their 15th victory for the season.

And with five rounds to play, three against sides currently outside of the top eight, they are six points ahead of the Eagles and 12 ahead of the Hawks.

Sandilands hails Griffin’s input

The West Australian

Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands believes his partnership with Jon Griffin will only improve as the club tries to cement a top-two finish over the next five weeks.

Sandilands and Griffin played a major part in the Dockers’ gritty 21-point win over Greater Western Sydney yesterday.

Sandilands’ 21 disposals and 43 hit-outs were influential, while Griffin contributed 21 hit-outs, 10 touches and a goal, which could have been two if not for the blood rule forcing him to give up a shot from close range.

Nat Fyfe’s absence provides opportunities for Fremantle Dockers lesser-lights

PerthNow

FREMANTLE midfielder Stephen Hill saw elements of the Dockers’ best form this season in the last quarter of its Round 17 win over Richmond at the MCG.

Hill, set for extended stings in the centre-square ball-ups, predicts cleaner ball use and scoring against Greater Western Sydney at home today, despite the absence of Nat Fyfe for at least a week with a nagging thigh injury.

Hill said Fyfe’s absence opens the way for newcomers and that they had managed to string wins together when stars Matthew Pavlich and Aaron Sandilands were out injured.

Fremantle lead charge to sign Suns’ Charlie Dixon

The Australian

Fremantle have emerged as the frontrunners from the pack of clubs chasing Gold Coast forward Charlie Dixon and have so far presented the richest in-principle deal to the management of the out-of-contract Suns forward.

In negotiations with Dixon’s Queensland-based agent, the Dockers have trumped any offer Brisbane will be prepared to pay, by promising to deliver on a five-year deal for him to move west for between $700,000 and $750,000 a year, pending a fitness assessment.
