Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon has dismissed the notion the team is deliberately taking its foot off the pedal during periods of games.
Several commentators suggested the side was reducing its effort during some quarters to conserve energy and look after its veteran players.
Fremantle has let the opposition sides kick a number of quick successive goals this year but Lyon said the club’s data showed effort was consistent across all four quarters.
"I can guarantee you, we've got all the data," Lyon said.
"We ran as hard in the first quarter (against Essendon) as we did in the last quarter and actually our performance on running was our strongest and most consistent for the six rounds because we can plot the six, every quarter and metres-per-minute."
"It's certainly wasn't to do with that (reduced running effort). It's certainly to do with some ball use, some poor kick-ins and some poor decisions without the ball that's just opened us a little bit.
"And specifically we've won three quarters of last quarters and we had 12 shots against Melbourne and Geelong. So there's certainly been Sydney the third quarter, West Coast the last quarter I think when we were 70 points up or something and last week's last quarter.
"But we know - and I've shared that with the players - there's a lot of noise here, but here's the facts, you're running really well. It's a non issue for us."
Effort equal across quarters
Ross Lyon says Freo runs as hard in the first quarter as in the last.
