Fremantle midfielder Ethan Hughes says he will do everything in his power to earn a playing role this season after recently being promoted to the senior list.
“I’ll push as hard as I can, train as hard as I can and do everything I can to get a kick,” he said.
“[I’ll put my] best foot forward to keep training as hard as I can.”
Hughes elected to keep his off-season brief by working on his own training ahead of his second pre-season with Fremantle.
“I just went to Bali for a week and everything else was back in Perth training to get my body right and get ready for pre-season,” he said.
“It’s great to get back out there with the boys.
“It’s starting to get into the full swing of things, [I’m] loving it.”
Bigger, better Hughes
The 21-year-old Bunbury local says his elevation to the senior list hasn’t influenced his training regime but has motivated him to play senior football.
“I’m out here training with the boys, everything is the same [as] the rookie list but to be eligible for games and that sort of stuff is something I’m excited for,” he said.
Hughes says his footy skills continue to progress each year, a claim highlighted during his round 23 debut earlier this year against Port Adelaide when he gathered 22 disposals and took eight marks.
“Each year it’s graduated on, better footy and [things] like that,” he said.
“I’m here now, so everything is working forward to build a career out of what I’m doing here.
“Anything I can do to get a kick is what I’m doing.”
