McPharlin staying the course

Influential Fremantle defender Luke McPharlin has dismissed concerns he needs to be rested before the finals, declaring he wants to play every game for the rest of the year.

And the 33-year-old looks certain to get his wish after the team’s back line took another hit yesterday when the match review panel offered Zac Dawson a two-match ban for striking Greater Western Sydney full-forward Jeremy Cameron.

It was Dawson’s first AFL match of the season after overcoming groin and thumb injuries.

Dockers duo locked in until the end of 2017

FREMANTLE youngsters Matt Taberner and Connor Blakely have agreed to contract extensions that will tie them to the Dockers until the end of 2017.

Taberner, 22, was coming out of contract at the end of this season and was dropped last week after battling for form playing as the second key forward

Blakely, 19, was contracted until the end of 2016 but has added a one-year extension after showing great promise in the WAFL. He has been very close to debuting for Fremantle on a few occasions this year.

The big-bodied inside midfield said he had been keen to secure his future at Fremantle.

Zac Dawson’s AFL return will be cut short after the match review panel offered him a two-match ban for striking during Fremantle's win over GWS yesterday.

Dawson will miss this round's western derby and the away clash with North Melbourne in round 17.

The defender was also fined $1000 for a melee during the match.
