Born and bred West Australian Garrick Ibbotson knows how big derby week is for footy fans in the west.
Ibbotson’s brother Matthew, who lives in London, is a keen West Coast supporter.
“I’m from Perth so I understand what happens in WA and how it splits down the middle,” he said.
“Even in my family, my brother was a West Coast supporter for a long time.
“I think he probably still is and hopes West Coast win but I play well.
“We’ve had a few disagreements or arguments in the past….but now he’s pretty supportive of me.”
Ibbotson said it was a massive week for footy fans but for both clubs, it remained like any of the other 22 rounds.
Match Preview: Fremantle v West Coast
“I understand for everybody else how big the game is, especially for WA footy, and because it’s one and two (on the ladder),” he said.
“I understand the hype and fascination from supporters.
We’ve played in big derbies but the ladder positions make it a little bit extra.”
Fremantle play West Coast at Domain Stadium on Sunday 16 August. Bounce down is at 2.40pm.
