Fremantle forward Michael Walters hopes his side can continue the momentum from its seven-goal final term against Brisbane.

Freo’s 36-point win over Brisbane last Sunday was a dour affair due largely to persistent rain until three quarter time.

In the space of a few minutes Fremantle showed the competition why it sits on top of the AFL ladder with a burst of goals.

The side kicked seven goals for the term, doubling its score.

Walters kicked four goals in that game and said Freo needed to continue that momentum to beat Hawthorn on Sunday.

Talking Points ahead of Hawthorn

“Momentum is very important,” he said.

“That’s what we’re working on.”

Walters said Fremantle would need to make the most of its opportunities in front of goal to beat the reigning premiers.

“We need to stick to the basics and take every opportunity we get to get on the scoreboard,” he said.

“We don’t go out their thinking about how many goals we can kick in the first quarter.

“It’s about sticking to the basics and doing what we need to do to stick with them (Hawthorn).”

Fremantle play Hawthorn at Aurora Stadium on Sunday 12 July. Bounce down is at 3.20pm.
