Wonderful Walters:
Michael Walters is arguably the premier small forward in the competition and he showed that on Sunday afternoon.
His four goals were key to Fremantle’s 36-point win and brought his season tally to a club high of 26.
Fremantle ground out win over Brisbane
Tackles:
The wet conditions made for a tough and physical slog.
There was a combined 235 tackles in the bruising match with Chris Mayne recording an equal game-high of 14 tackles with Brisbane’s Mitch Robinson.
If Freo are to beat Hawthorn in Tasmania this Sunday, it will need to bring that same physical pressure.
Goals:
While Fremantle kicked 13.6.84, accuracy in front of goal remains a talking point.
A number of relatively simple set shots in the third quarter ended up out of bounds on the full.
The good sign was three goals to captain Matthew Pavlich, who mastered the tough conditions and a stomach illness.
Hawks the next big challenge
Conditions:
The wet weather has followed Fremantle in recent weeks.
Rain was nearly constant throughout the first three quarters of Sunday’s match and could play a part in this Sunday’s match in Launceston.
Midfielder Lachie Neale admitted the side took time to adjust to playing wet weather footy and was using the ball by hand too often.
