Fremantle key defender Zac Dawson got through his first game of football in three months unscathed.
Dawson broke his thumb playing for Peel Thunder in April in just his first game of the year after he was sidelined for several weeks after a pre-season groin injury.
He was solid with 10 disposals and four marks in Peel Thunder's 22-point win over Claremont in the WAFL.
“I got through really well,“ he said.
“I’m still a little bit sore from the procedure and the week, but fitness wise and groin wise I did really well.”
Dawson said getting his first touch helped relax his nerves after missing several months of football.
“I was just really excited to get across the line,” he said.
“When you injure your hand, you worry about whether you can use it properly.
“I took a mark really early, fumbled it a little bit, but got the nerves out of the way and went on from there.”
Dawson was able to train during his most recent stint on the sidelines with the aid of a wrist brace, allowing him to maintain his fitness.
“I felt really fit,” he said.
“I’ve been able to do a lot of training over the last month, so my fitness is good and my hand will get better day by day.”
