Michael Barlow says he was honoured to have captained Fremantle but is happy to hand the reins back to Matthew Pavlich.

Barlow was named as captain for Saturday’s round 23 clash with Port Adelaide, with Pavlich among a handful of rested players.

“It was a big honour to captain the side,” Barlow told Channel 9.

“We had so many debutants and a lot of inexperienced players.

“We had a real crack.”

Barlow joked that he was reluctantly handing the captaincy back to Pavlich for Saturday’s Qualifying Final against Sydney at Domain Stadium.

“We look forward to following him into battle against Sydney,” he said.

“I can’t wait for Saturday.”

Pavlich will equal John Nicholls in sixth position for most games as a club captain VFL/AFL history, with 188th games.
