Giants insists Freo target McCarthy is staying in Sydney

Fremantle could be forced to look elsewhere to fill their desperate need for a key forward, with No.1 target Cam McCarthy looking an increasingly unlikely proposition.
The Dockers were believed to be prepared to give up first-round draft picks this year and next to convince Greater Western Sydney to release McCarthy, who has two years left on his contract.
The 20-year-old South Fremantle product had indicated a strong desire to return home to WA.
But Fremantle will have to increase their offer or consider other options after GWS football manager Graeme Allan said McCarthy would “definitely” be at the Giants in 2016.

So that's a wrap for the first day of the 2015 NAB AFL Trade Period.
It was dominated by the Cats, with Patrick Dangerfield making his way home from Adelaide where he starred for eight years, and Scott Selwood being reunited with his brother after a great career with West Coast.
Jake Melksham from Essendon to Melbourne for a second-round pick was all but confirmed and should be signed off on Tuesday.
All the clubs met with each other at Etihad Stadium, but there was no concrete progress with players such as Jake Carlisle, Harley Bennell, Jed Anderson, Ben Kennedy, Jeremy Howe, Paul Seedsman, Cam McCarthy and Zac Smith.
Talk of Adelaide and St Kilda exchanging picks to help the Saints land Carlisle also started to surface, but something of that magnitude will take time to come to fruition.
But today was just the first of 11 days. Plenty of wheeling and dealing to come and plenty of deals still to be signed.

THE NAB AFL Trade Period has officially kicked off with clubs able to finalise deals as of 10am on Monday.
With plenty of talk behind the scenes leading up to this week, three players - Patrick Dangerfield, Dean Gore and Jack Redden - changed clubs on day one.
As well, three players have been made offers using free agency with two, Matt Suckling and Scott Selwood already making their way to the Western Bulldogs and Geelong respectively.

PATRICK Dangerfield’s blockbuster move to Geelong headlined the official opening of the AFL trade period on Monday.
The Cats were involved in the only two official transactions on the day, with Scott Selwood’s free agency move from West Coast also confirmed on a big day for the club.
But it was Dangerfield’s long-anticipated switch from Adelaide that made the biggest splash, with the Crows agreeing to send the star onballer and pick 50 to Geelong in exchange for the Cats’ picks 9 and 28, as well as untried South Australian midfielder Dean Gore.
Saints explore pick slide for Jake Carlisle

St Kilda are exploring ways of turning pick five into two first round draft selections, to try to deliver a pick to Essendon for Jake Carlisle while maintaining a first-round presence in the draft.
The Saints are not willing to sacrifice pick five in the draft for Carlisle alone, but have begun examining options that would effectively see them swap that pick for the key defender and another reasonably high selection.
Adelaide or the Gold Coast shape as the clubs most able to help break the stand-off between the clubs, but up to five teams have indicated some interest in pick five.
