The City of Cockburn has confirmed the selection of Brookfield Multiplex as the preferred tenderer to complete the final design and negotiate the guaranteed maximum price to build the Cockburn regional physical activity and education centre.

The world-class centre will also house the Fremantle Dockers' Elite Training and Administration Facility.

Earthworks commenced by LandCorp in December 2014 are currently 30% complete with the site due to be handed to the City for construction in April 2015.

City of Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett said the tender panel sought to achieve the best value for money for the City's ratepayers and will now work with the Fremantle Dockers and Brookfield Multiplex to finalise the price.

"The City's tender process to date has been rigorous and robust to ensure that our community get the best recreational facility in Perth," said Mayor Howlett.

 In October 2014 the City shortlisted the following four contractors to proceed to stage two of the sourcing process.
 1.    Broad Construction Services (WA) Pty Ltd;
 2.    Brookfield Multiplex Constructions Pty Ltd;
 3.    Perkins Decmil Joint Venture (Perkins (WA) Pty Ltd and Decmil Australia Pty Ltd); and,
 4.    Pindan Contracting Pty Ltd.

Brookfield Multiplex will deliver the entire building project, except the geothermal heating pools (which will be delivered by another contractor).

The completion date is on track to be delivered by the end of 2016/early 2017.
