Peel Thunder’s board has reappointed Cam Shepherd as the club’s senior coach for a further two years.
Peel has experienced its best season since joining the WAFL 19 years ago, finishing the home and away season in third position on the ladder and qualifying to play in its first ever finals series.
“Cam is passionate about his role and has a genuine interest in the development of young footballers so they can reach their potential and play league football,” CEO John Ditchburn said.
“Over the past two seasons, we have seen Cam develop on a personal level and this season’s success is well deserved reward for hard work, commitment and his desire for continuous improvement.”
Another pleasing aspect of Peel’s 2015 season was the performance of its colts side, which had a very strong second half season and also finished third on the ladder, qualifying to play in the WAFL finals series.
Peel vice president and director of football Bob Ryan said the announcement of Shepherd’s reappointment as senior coach for season 2016 and 2017 was a message of support for the way he had “demonstrated his commitment to the club and recognition of what has been a great season for the senior team”.
“We wish him and the team well for the future and, in particular, for the upcoming finals series,” Ryan said.
“We have made this announcement prior to the completion of the finals series as a vote of confidence in Cam and wish him well for the future.”
