All going well, Griffin Logue is hopeful that he can run out to start the 2020 season alongside fellow tall defender Alex Pearce.
Logue’s long-awaited return to AFL football in 2019 was bittersweet, with the 21-year-old playing his first game in 22 months at the expense of his good friend and injured teammate.
It meant that Logue was thrown into the deep end when Fremantle took on Port Adelaide at Optus Stadium in round 13, stepping into Pearce’s full back role in his 14th game of AFL football - and his first game since 20 August 2017.
Logue racked up a career-high 24 disposals, eight marks and five rebound 50s in Freo’s 21 point win.
“Obviously Alex was a huge out for us and seeing big ‘Moose’ go down is not what you like to see,” Logue said.
“I was happy to jump at that opportunity and come and play my role for the team when I needed to.”

The 193cm Logue hopes that Fremantle can successfully utilise a trio of tall defenders in 2020, allowing him to play alongside Pearce (201cm) and Joel Hamling (194cm).
“Whether or not I do that same role next year or it’s something different when ‘Moose’ comes back in, (playing full back) is something to have under my belt,” Logue said.
“(Teaming up with Pearce and Hamling) is exciting to think about, I don’t think we’ve really played a full game together except for our JLT Series game against Collingwood.
“It’s been a long time since we’ve had the three of us together. I reckon if it works, it works - but it would come down to who we’re playing and how that would function.”
Logue said that he didn’t have any problems directing the backline alongside Hamling for the second half of the season.
“You’ve always got to be vocal, especially from the backline,” Logue said.
“That’s whether you’re a high half-back or playing at full-back, as you see the game for everyone else. It’s just a part of the trade.”
