Brownlow medallist Nat Fyfe has edged out netballer Caitlin Bassett and cyclist Melissa Hoskins to win The West Australian-RAC Sports Star award for 2015.
 
The 24-year-old is the first AFL player to win the award in a decade and joins the likes of Ben Cousins, Simon Black and Peter Matera.
 
Sporting an eye-catching floral suit, Fyfe said his success this year winning the Brownlow medal and the AFL Players’ Association MVP for a second straight year is just the beginning.

“It was never going to define me,” he said.
 
“I’ll carry on and keep playing footy and unfortunately I’ll start back at square one, everything goes back to a level playing field for me.”
 
Fyfe has spent the off-season recovering from a fractured leg but said his recovery is going well.
 
“I’m in pretty good health, “ he said.
 
“I had a doctors scan on Tuesday got the full tick off from him so I’ll go back into training and field towards Christmas.”
