FREMANTLE coach Mark Harvey will be aiming to address some fixturing issues he believes disadvantages the league's longest-travelling clubs before the draw for the 2010 season is created.
Fremantle will embark on its longest road trip of the season in round 22, facing Geelong at Skilled Stadium on the back of a six-day break.
The Cats have had eight days to recover and Harvey said the timing and frequency of the club's six-day breaks would be a key part of its end-of-season submission to the AFL.
"It's the second time ... we've been asked to do that," Harvey said on Wednesday. "And on the back of that, the opposition has had one or two day's more recovery than us as well.
"So that's a key part of our submission. You can only put in your submission and maybe go and have a meeting with them, and that's what we'll be doing.
The coach said eliminating six-day breaks on the eve of lengthy road trips was essential to create a fair fixture.
"If we’re playing on a level playing field I would have thought that would be not unreasonable," he said. "It's a key part of getting a draw that doesn’t compromise everyone.
"All I know is it's taking longer and longer to recover from games and the intensity has gone up. So that all has to be spoken about, specifically for the sides that are geographically the longest travellers."
Harvey said the club would take its travel issue to AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou and general manager of football operations Adrian Anderson in the off-season.
On this weekend's opponent, Harvey said if Fremantle can play at the same level it has at Subiaco Oval in recent weeks it was a good chance of tripping the Cats up on the eve of the finals.
"Their performance over the last month is not to where Bomber (coach Mark Thompson) would like it, and hopefully we can extend that," Harvey said.
"Provided our pressure or contested ball is there…then I think we can match it with Geelong. I think that's something we've got a lot better at".
Harvey said Fremantle would name an unchanged line-up following its round-21 win over Essendon and the stability created would be an enormous benefit.
"I'm just starting to get the team together that we've been looking for," he said.
"It was significant what happened on the weekend and we get a chance to put ourselves against one of the best teams."
