Fremantle defender Paul Duffield has praised Freo’s leadership group for standing up when the chips were down against Port Adelaide on Sunday.

Captain Matthew Pavlich kicked four important goals, while David Mundy and Nat Fyfe had a massive fourth quarter to will Freo over the line by seven points.

Game-breaker: Pavlich the difference

Duffield said it was a privilege to play alongside such esteemed leaders that are able to influence the players.

“All of our leadership group was really, really good with the way they stood up,” he said.

“(David) Mundy and (Nat) Fyfe were on the ball, (Lee) Spurr and (Luke) McPharlin in defence, Pavlich as well and Aaron Sandilands.

“They were fantastic as a group.

“It’s a privilege to play with a leadership group that’s so strong with what they demand in terms of culture around the club day in, day out and the way they perform on the weekend.”

Duffield couldn’t fault the effort of the club’s leaders as they stood up and lead by example.

“We’ve got absolute faith in them as a group and it’s a great thing to play football with players like that,” he said.

“It’s really enjoyable to play football with players you really trust.

“I can’t speak highly enough about them.”
