Fremantle midfielder David Mundy thinks there is still plenty of improvement in the team despite a convincing 44-point win against Geelong at Simonds Stadium.

Freo were relentless against the Cats, breaking the game wide open in the third quarter with dominance in the midfield.

Mundy was pleased to get the win, attributing the victory to the team’s effort across the entire game.

“It always makes the bus ride and plane home a little bit quicker and a little bit nicer,” Mundy said.

“I thought the guys really gave unwavering effort for the entire four quarters.

“It was a powerful performance.”

Mundy lead the Freo midfield with a career-high 39 possessions, while his teammates were well on top in the middle of the park.

“I didn’t even realise to be honest,” he said.

“I thought I had a little bit of it, but 39 is quite a lot.

“It’s not about me…I think it was all about the team approach to the game.”

Freo’s clearance work was a focus on the training track in the past week and Mundy said it paid dividends against Geelong.

“We (the midfield) get the first chance in every quarter to have a touch and start the momentum for the team,” Mundy said.

“Having first crack at the ball every time and being able to put it in our forward half is a big responsibility and something that we’ve worked very hard on.

“We speak about it in just about every meeting that we have.”

After a poor display of skills against Port Adelaide last week, Mundy said the team had made it a focus to be more clinical with the ball against the Cats.

“I still think we’ve got a long way to go with it (skills),” he said.

“I don’t think today by any means was a perfect display of our skill set.

“I think we’ve got a bit of work to do still.”

Freo will now take on West Coast in the Carlton Draught Derby on Sunday 19 April.
