Fremantle captain Matthew Pavlich and pacey forward Michael Walters will be assessed this week after receiving concussions against Melbourne.

The pair both played no part in much of Freo’s 68-point win at the MCG, after copping bumps to the head in separate incidents.

Walters dived into a contest, late in the first quarter and was hit in the head by a Melbourne player’s knee.

He came straight from the ground and was replaced by sub Matt de Boer soon after.

In the second quarter, Pavlich marked inside 50 but on his follow through collided with a Melbourne defender and was slow to get up.

Senior coach Ross Lyon said the concussions were the only injury concerns from the game

“Walters put his head in the hole and copped a clip,” he said.

“Pavlich took a mark, took two steps and then copped a hit to the head.

 “It wasn’t ideal.

“He’s pretty special to us but I haven’t got the medical (report), except the doctors felt he couldn’t continue."

Lyon said he was not sure of the severity of the injuries yet.
