Following Saturday’s thrilling win against Geelong, and an undefeated NAB Challenge series, Fremantle coach Ross Lyon said he was wrapped with the pre-season format.

“As a format, I like the three (pre-season) games and getting out to the communities,” Lyon said.

“Getting to Mt Barker and Albany, we really enjoyed it and think that’s a good initiative.

“There have been some formats in the past that we haven’t enjoyed, but I’ve had no angst at all this summer.”

Freo steals late win

The South-West of WA wasn’t the only sight Lyon enjoyed seeing this pre-season, as he spoke highly of seeing new 10-metre protected area in effect.

“I think there has been some strong rule implementation,” he said.

“There’s some excitement in there, there’s some quick ball movement (and) the game has changed a bit.

“I think we’re fit and conditioned and (the rule) gives us a good opportunity.”

Reflecting on a successful NAB Challenge campaign as well as the new rule implementations, Lyon gave a glowing review on the state of the game.

“I think the game is in really good shape,” he said.

“We come out of this NAB Challenge thinking AFL footy is in as good a shape as it has been for a while.”
