Fremantle captain David Mundy has backed Nat Fyfe’s leadership style, saying it is for the betterment of the club.
At a media conference on Tuesday to acknowledge his upcoming 250th game for Fremantle, Mundy was asked if Fyfe’s demanding leadership style had at times upset some players.
Mundy said the reigning Brownlow Medallist wanted the Freo Dockers to improve, which occasionally meant he was forceful with his feedback.

“Nat is clearly a very demanding leader at times and certainly knows what he wants. We love that about him. We really respect that,” Mundy said.
“We value it at this football club. Sometimes that may get people offside but Nat is really coming from a place to help everyone and improve.
“Our group certainly understands that. While there might be moments where myself, Nat or Ross might get someone offside, it’s all for the betterment of the team and the group.”

Mundy, who has no issue with Fyfe placing high demands on the team, also said the club wanted players to take responsibility for helping the team instead of expecting the captain to be in charge.
“It’s not a pyramid or a pinnacle,” Mundy said.
“I’m at the top by title I guess but we’re really working on broadening our leadership scope amongst our whole group. So when people like Nat stand up and demand better of the individual or the group, we see that as a step forward.
“The more people like that we can get in our organisation the better we’ll become.”
