Fremantle Dockers Lachie Weller said it would be crucial for his Freo teammates to keep up the pressure this week, ahead of their round four clash against the undefeated North Melbourne.
Weller said it would take a team effort to limit the opportunities of Kangaroos formidable unit of defensive runners.
“They’re a really good team and we’re going to have to be switched on,” Weller said.
“When we have forward entry we’ll need to lock them in.
“Whether it’s ‘Ballas’ (Ballantyne), Sonny (Walters), myself, or Mayne, that pressure is going to be vital.”
Refreshed and ready to step up
The young midfielder has impressed in his first few games of 2016, with his tackling pressure being a bright spot for Freo.
For Weller, his ability to provide defensive pressure stems from a very simple mentality.
“That’s where I start. It’s my main mindset,” he said.
“Try to tackle and pressure as much as I can.”
With six games under his belt now and more than a year in the AFL system, Weller said he’s adapting to the speed of the game.
“I’m feeling more comfortable every game now,” he said
“I’ve had a year to adjust to it now and get a feel to it and I think I’m adjusting pretty well now.”
Pavlich positive about Freo forwards
Weller also said he’d been impressed by the contribution of fellow Freo youngsters Ed Langdon and Alex Pearce.
“We’ve seen some growth in all of us,” he said.
“Ed and Alex came (into the team), in round two, they stepped up and didn’t look out of place.”
