Fremantle and Collingwood face off at the MCG on Friday night, and similarities between both teams 2016 campaigns have shaped what could be an exciting game, according to senior coach Ross Lyon.
While injuries have presented their challenges this year, Lyon said the endeavour had remained the same for both teams.
“They’re like us,” Lyon said.
“They (Collingwood) have a significant injury list with probably six or seven of their best 18 out.
“They’ve been challenged like us. They probably thought they could mount a campaign, (but) they’ve run into some headwinds but I think we find each other on equal footing.”
Lyon said that while both teams have experienced their share of adversity in 2016, he expects a spirited affair on Friday night.
“It’s going to be a good battle and both teams are taking the game on,” he said.
“We come in with a bit of momentum and belief in what we’ve been trying to do.
“(And) they’re aggressive out of the centre bounce and like to get it into their forwards.”
Freo making the most of adversity
Freo haven't played more than two games in a season at the MCG since 2013, but despite not frequenting the venue too often they've have won their past three games at the 'home of football', and Lyon said Friday night would provide a good opportunity for younger players to experience the biggest stage in football.
“It’s another opportunity to improve,” he said.
“You don’t get too many primetime slots and they’re coveted in the AFL.
“I think you’re going to get two teams with young players bristling with enthusiasm and leaders bringing them along with them."
