Greg Broughton has been mentioned previously in the Freo Dream Team Wrap. You were told he was good value after dropping sharply in price following a slow start to the season.

Surely, the 24-year-old would find his missing ball-magnet soon and return to his free-flowing, possession winning ways, we said.

We were wrong.

Broughts failed to bring it, registering three disappointing scores of 50-something and missing a game during rounds 3-6, making the Freo DT Wrap look a bit silly.

Now, as we approach round 15, it’s time for us to say a somewhat belated “we told you so”.

Greg must have turned over Heaven and Earth but he eventually dug up that ball-magnet.

The 139 he scored against Brisbane last round would have left his owners almost as excited as the guys who founded Google.

It’s not so much the score, but where and how he scored it.

Broughts was moved into the midfield after half-time and proceeded to win 20 of his 32 possessions for the game, while also finding the time to kick two critical goals.

Dream Team delight.

The conspiracy theorists would claim that Mark Harvey must have drafted Broughton into his own Dream Team for that round, however that’s not possible as he is not allowed to have Freo players in his side (bad luck on missing the Fyfe train).

The truth is that, in this kind of form, if Broughton becomes a midfield regular in real life, his fantasy defender status makes him as valuable as any gun on-baller.

He’s hasn’t been a one-game-wonder, either. Broughts has put the writing on the wall of late.

He backed up a 92 in round 9 with 120 and 117 in the next two rounds.

Broughton scored 90 in round 12 but could only manage 46 the next round, however, even Charlie Sheen would have struggled to find a winning Freo Docker on that day.

At $341,100, Broughts is still a bargain and a great pick up for your Dream Team defence if you don’t have him already.
