Fremantle Docker Tendai Mzungu was named an AFL Multicultural Player Ambassador on Thursday.

Mzungu, who was born to a Zimbabwean father and Australian mother, said he was proud to be a representative of diversity in Australian football.

“I’m really proud to be involved in a program that’s grown really strongly over the past six or seven years,” Mzungu said of Multicultural Round.

Mzungu named AFL Multicultural Player Ambassador

The Freo utility stood alongside other multicultural ambassadors of the AFL community and said the experience will only help strengthen football in an increasingly diverse Australia.

“I had a great time with the other ambassadors,” he said.

“You look at Australia as a whole, around about 50% of people have a parent that was born overseas.

“We’re a very diverse country and it’s great to see a lot more diversity in football.

“If I can help in any way to raise the awareness and profile, that’s something I'd love to do.”
