At Fremantle's Australia Post AFL Community Camp in Broome, it's not just the locals who are learning from the players.

Garrick Ibbotson is one of ten Fremantle players in the Kimberley this week, visiting schools and aged care facilities around Broome, Derby and remote communities in the area.

At the school clinics, the players take the chance to speak to the kids about lifestyle choices and education, what it’s like being a footballer and getting to an elite level.

But Ibbotson is taking a lot in from those in the community too, with the Kimberley area so passionate about their footy.

"I came out here in 2009 for Freo’s community camp and loved it then," Ibbotson said.

"It’s very different out here obviously. I’ve been told this is the main footy oval during the season but the kids love it.

"The youngest ones were probably the most enthusiastic about it, hands up asking questions left, right and centre. It was all good."

The Kimberley is allocated to Fremantle as a Next Generation Academy, and Ibbotson shared some insight into why he things the area is a potential hotbed for talent.

"I know there is some supreme talent that comes from up this way and it shows with the guys being drafted and how many numbers they get from up this way," Ibbotson said.

"I think it's the way they are coached up here, they get to go out and enjoy their footy and play their natural game.

"They don't get over coached. They play to their talents and strengths and just get out there and enjoy themselves."

And their enjoyment of Aussie rules isn't just in those who play, but in everyone Ibbotson has met along the way.

"I get the feeling they just love their footy up here," Ibbotson said.

"We see them wearing their footy shirts and see them walking down the street wearing their footy jumpers.

"Even when we played games in Darwin to see all the guys at the games, you can get the real feeling that footy is high on their priorities out here and they just love to play."
