Around every corner there is a great story waiting to be discovered, lived and retold.
Thanks to community impact partner Beyond Bank, the young women of Esther Foundation were lucky enough to hear the story of Fremantle women’s coach, Michelle Cowan.
Cowan spoke candidly to more than 30 young women of Esther Foundation at the Fremantle Football club recently.
Within moments the audience were captivated by Cowan’s honesty, warmth and passion.
Cowan spoke about her journey to becoming Fremantle women’s coach, the glass ceilings she had to break down and shared advice on goal setting.
As a coach Cowan encourages her team to live by a ‘four P’ model.
This model includes passion, planning, people and power.
“Identify your passion, have a plan, surround yourself by the right people and be powerful with your life,” she said.
Cowan believes this model is something that transcends the football field and can be applied to anyone with a dream. She encouraged all the Esther women to adopt this model.
The first P is passion and is something that Cowan radiates.
“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life,” she said.
“I love everything about my job.”
Cowan also emphasised the importance of planning and credits her success to having a clear goal and end point – coaching an AFL team.

“Have a plan in life,” Michelle said.
“Write your goals down. You are 80 per cent more likely to achieve these goals when you put pen to paper.”
Cowan also praises the people in her life and the influence they have had in shaping her success.
“Surround yourself with people that believe in you and believe that you can achieve what you have set your mind on,” she said.
“Weed your garden to make it grow.”
Lastly, Cowan emphasised the importance of feeling empowered.
“Be powerful with your life and grab every opportunity,” she said.
“You have one life and you need to live it.”
