Fremantle have wrapped up a successful draft period, adding four rookies to the club's list.
At Monday's NAB AFL Rookie Draft, Fremantle selected Taylin Duman from the Oakleigh Chargers with their first pick at number three, and added Luke Strnadica from East Fremantle with pick 21.
Brady Grey and Josh Deluca will return as rookies, with the pair re-drafted after training with the club throughout the pre-season.
Lloyd was pleased with Fremantle’s two new additions to the club in Duman and Strnadica.
“Duman was someone we thought we’d look at in the National Draft, but he was still available today,” Lloyd said.
“He’s a 192cm running defender who can also go through the midfield, so he’s got really good speed and agility and uses the ball quite well. He gives some really good rebound out of defence but he’s also got the capacity to be a midfielder as well.”
In Strnadica, Fremantle add another local key forward to their list after picking up Cam McCarthy in this year’s NAB AFL Trade Period.
“He’s a big boy at over 200cm,” Lloyd said.
“He can play in the forward line but also has the capacity to ruck as well. I’m really excited with his size, and to see him develop his football both in the forward-line and in the middle.”
With picks 38 and 50, Fremantle saw Grey and Deluca remain on the club’s list for the 2017 season.
“Brady’s been working hard through pre-season and we thought he deserved another opportunity,” Lloyd said.
“Throughout this year Josh was probably one of our most improved players. He really came on throughout the year, so we wanted to give him another opportunity to keep developing his football.”
Fremantle's four rookies join four new players selected at Friday's NAB AFL National Draft, including Griffin Logue, Sean Darcy, Brennan Cox and Luke Ryan.
In addition, Fremantle signed four young Western Australians during the Trade Period in McCarthy, Bradley Hill, Joel Hamling and Shane Kersten.
Lloyd acknowledged that Fremantle fans will see a lot of new faces in 2017, but was pleased to see the club add height and fill their positional needs.
“It was a really high turnover of players,” Lloyd said.
“It started off with the trade period and we were able to get some talls, and the national draft was quite tall as well.
“We feel like we’ve filled some really strong needs. We’ve brought in a ruckman, a key forward in McCarthy and a general forward in Kersten.
“We brought in some key backs over the course of the last couple of months and also filled some other positions like a running midfielder in Hill and some general defenders.
“We really filled a fair bit across the board, we’re really happy with the period and I’m looking forward to seeing the list develop over the coming years.”
