Fremantle youngster Darcy Tucker has been cleared of ligament damage to his knee after a visit to eminent Melbourne surgeon Julian Feller, thewest.com.au reported on Thursday.
Fremantle Dockers coach Ross Lyon said the Fremantle Dockers were “thrilled” that Tucker, impressive against Richmond in the club’s first NAB Challenge outing at Mandurah on Friday, was now likely to be available for the club’s final NAB Challenge match against Geelong on March 12.
There were fears that Tucker could miss up to six weeks with a knee injury after scan results indicated a potential problem.
“We came in on Monday and he was sore,” Lyon told thewest.com.au.
“His knee was just not quite right. They thought it was a cork but they sent him for a scan and it showed a signal that worried them.
“What we picked up was in Julian’s view an old injury. Because the cork had bled onto an old spot it had lit it up and it was near the ACL or medial ligament.
“We got the results yesterday. He (Feller) is quite confident. He has cleared him to train Friday and give him a week off and
look to play him and then do a follow up MRI in a month.
“We were really thrilled to get that email yesterday.
“As it was it would only have been six weeks but we have seen enough to know that if he keeps working hard and doesn’t get caught up in the distractions of AFL in this town that he will be a pretty good player for us at some point, hopefully sooner rather than later.
“Throughout the summer he has shown a real maturity and focus in meetings and on the game at training.
“He has got a really big tank. He runs really long and he is quite skilful and a good decision maker and quite mature.”
