After securing the match-winning goal against Melbourne at the MCG on the weekend, Freo forward Cam McCarthy says he is the happiest he has been.
In his first year in purple the 22-year-old has lined up in all four of Freo’s games this season, Saturday’s being a stand out for the forwad.
After missing 12 months of football last year, McCarthy has been relishing his time back home and the chance to spend quality time with family and friends while still being able to play footy at the elite level.
“I’m in a really good space at the moment and I haven’t been happier,” McCarthy said.
“Being able to go home to family and friends and speak to people outside of a football club where you can kind of get away and its not all football, that has been massive for me.
“When I come into the club I am giving it 100% but then I can get away and catch up with family and friends as well.
“It balances it out beautifully.”
The tall forward, who kicked two goals on the weekend against the Demons and finished the game with 20 disposals, said his body was feeling good and his focus was just to build each week.
“It’s hard to put a finger on where I am at but at the moment, I feel pretty good, probably better than expected running out games. ” McCarthy said.
“I am just enjoying my footy and loving being back and just taking it week by week, so it’s all positive.”
