A FREO FATHER’S DAY: Fyfe
Nat Fyfe and his Dad David are featured today
What makes your Dad a good bloke?
He’s a very genuine guy and has time for everyone. He is always willing to help people out when he can.
What is your favourite memory of your dad while growing up?
Dad is a truck driver, so I spent a lot of time in the truck with him, all hours of the day and night, going places and working so we got pretty close doing that.
What’s the best gift you have ever given your dad?”
A framed college of his favourite horse Phar Lap. I gave it to him for his birthday last year.
If your Dad was part of the team, where would he play and which teammate would he be most similar to?
He’d be the coach, because he’s good at giving out sprays.
What trait of your dads are you glad you inherited, and which one are you glad you didn’t?
I’m glad I inherited his work ethic, he is an extremely hard worker, so I’m glad I inherited that. I’m glad I didn’t inherit his height, because he is considerably shorter than me.
How much of an influence did your Dad have on your footy career?
Dad had a big influence. The best thing he did was that he never pushed me in any direction or tell me what to do, he was always just very supportive of what ever I wanted to do, and I’m really grateful for that.
What is your Fathers Day message to your dad?
Happy Fathers Day! Have a cracking day, I think he might be in Perth for it so hopefully, I can catch up with him and buy him a beer.
David Fyfe on his son Nat…
What makes your son a good bloke?
His thoughtful and caring nature. It is no big deal for him to help and is usually unasked for.
What is the nicest thing he has ever done for you?
For my 50th he collected a montage of photo's of things that were important to me, had it framed and engraved with a personal message.
What ís your favourite childhood memory of him?
This is hard to convey but from when he was very little he and his brother would come in the truck with me. Some of our days were very long and into the night, and after the hectic first hours with the obligatory fights with Liam, over who helps do things and who sat in the seat etc, he would end up standing leaning on my seat close to me and where the gear stick let the warm air from the motor up into the cab. He would doze there warm and close.
What would you consider to be his greatest achievement in his life to date?
Like a lot of kids he was going to be an AFL player when he grew up, but he actually meant it. So he has ticked that box.
What trait of yours are you glad he inherited?
Other than his good looks everthing else comes from his mother. But probably his determination.
If his footy career was to come to an end tomorrow, what would you say to him?
"Well done son for doing what you set out to do, and giving it 100%"
