Michael Walters is focused on building his fitness base after missing the last five games of season 2017 with a knee injury.
Walters injured his knee in the round 19 game against the Giants but said he has fully recovered and looking forward to getting stuck into season 2018.
“My knee is coming along good, I am back into full training and have been for the last week,” Walters said.
“It’s just good to be able to be back out there with the boys.”
The 26-year-old spent time in Freo’s midfield last season and was an integral part of the club’s round eight win against the Tigers, where he had 38 touches, seven marks and four tackles.
“I am doing a bit of training with the midfield and also with the forwards,” Walters said.
“I love kicking goals but I also love getting a kick, I haven’t thought too much about it.
“This pre-season I am just wanting to get fit, so whenever I get a chance to get in there I am raring to go.
“We have a pretty good group now that we have a number of players who can
swing into the midfield but also play forward.”
Walters said he was looking forward to playing with new recruit Brandon Matera, adding how impressed he was as by the dedication the small forward hs shown since joining the club.
“Brandon is a good player, we saw what he can do at the Gold Coast,” Walters said.
“He is that sort of player that can change a game and turn it on its head.
“It’s good to have him at the club and there is no doubt he has been working hard on a consistent basis since he has been here.”
