After making positive progress early in 2017, Fremantle utility Ed Langdon says he’s approaching the coming pre-season targeting his first full year of AFL football.

Langdon didn’t miss a session of last season’s preparations before his year was cut short with a knee injury, missing the final 11 games.

“I thought my first half of the year was really positive,” Langdon said.

“I don’t think I missed a session last pre-season, so I’ll be looking to do that again and, injuries aside, I hope to be available for a full year this year.”

Langdon said he played sore for a handful of games in 2017, determined to continue to contribute to the side.

“I think it ended up being four or five weeks (playing) with it (the injury),” Langdon said.

"I was really keen to play and I thought I could still contribute to the team, so I decided to keep playing. I think it did start to get to the point where I probably wasn’t contributing as much as I would have liked.

"I didn’t want to keep playing without being able to contribute. That was a really challenging time for me. It was a good learning experience, trying to play with injuries. I’ve never had to do that before, and it’s incredibly hard."

The 21-year-old says he remains close with fellow 2014 draftee Lachie Weller after his departure to the Gold Coast in the 2017 Trade Period, in a deal also saw pick no.41 head to the Suns in exchange for pick no.2.

Langdon, Weller and Connor Blakely were dubbed the 'three amigos' as the trio grew close as housemates in their early years at Fremantle.

“We were obviously pretty close us three,” Langdon said.

“I mean that’s footy, that’s what happens. It’s great for Lachie and the club gets a high draft pick out of it. I think everyone’s happy.

“I’ve spoken to him a few times and he seems to be going well over there.”

Langdon recently signed a two-year contract extension, committing to Freo until the end of the 2019 season.

“The club’s in a great position,” Langdon said. 

“We’re in the second year of a rebuild. We’ve got some great players coming in this year and I think it’s going to be pretty exciting.”
