Rookie defender Taylin Duman will be elevated to the senior list after signing a one-year contract extension that will see him at Fremantle until at least the end of the 2019 season.
The signing comes after the 20-year-old made his debut in round five, playing a total of eight games to date in a season that has been focussed on developing Freo’s youth.
Duman was selected with pick three in the 2016 Rookie Draft and has been an asset in defence this year led by Alex Pearce and Joel Hamling.
“It’s quite a young group down back with Luke Ryan, Hamling and Pearce,” Duman said.
“Especially those two, Hamling and Pearce, they’re quite young but really strong leaders as well.
“It has been really helpful playing with those guys.”
The defender says the youth within the group is an exciting factor around the club.
“The vibe at the cub is quite good, each training session and each game we’re all going out there to improve,” he said.
“We’ve got a young group with really mature leaders that help drive the energy at the club.”
Development coach Roger Hayden, who played 128 games in defence for Fremantle, has been Duman’s mentor at the club.
“Roger’s been really helpful to me and always reviews my games for Peel and AFL as well,” he said.
“He’s always giving me little tips on and off the field as well he’s been a really big help towards me.”
