First Year Reflections: Cerra
Player's 2018 apparel up for grabs
David Mundy was awarded the MVP Education and Training award at the AFLPA MVP Awards in Melbourne on Thursday evening.
The Education & Training Award recognises the player who has successfully combined their football commitments whilst also being engaged in education and training.
Mundy is currently completing an under graduate degree in marine science as well as a graduate certificate in business administration.
The 33-year-old said the award was a nice testament to his hard work.
“It’s an honour to have won the award. It’s not something I study for but it’s a nice little bit of recognition for the hard work I have put in,” Mundy said.
The 294-game veteran has been studying part-time since 2011, during that time he and wife Sally have had three children, Finn (5) Hudson (3) and Edie (9 months).
“It’s been a hard slog and with a young family it’s quite challenging. It takes a long time to complete a degree when you are studying part time,” Mundy said.
“I’m enrolled in my final two units for my marine science degree at the moment. I have one more unit left for my business administration certificate which I will finish this summer.”
“So hopefully graduation will all be wrapped up by the start of next year.”
Mundy is a firm believer in players working on their ‘off-field’ development and as a delegate of the AFLPA for the club, he encourages his younger teammates to take advantage of the support shown to players.
“It’s been huge a growth area in my time in football,” Mundy said.
“It’s heavily pushed by the football club, the AFL and the AFLPA. Awards like this and the education grants we get along the way are really helpful.”
Sean Darcy and Ed Langdon were also named in the AFLPA 22under22 on Thursday evening.
