Fremantle’s round seven clash with Richmond at the MCG has an added importance due to its location, according to midfielder Ed Langdon.
The game will be Freo’s first of two at the ground in the 2018 home and away season.
Fremantle won both of their MCG appearances in 2017, including a thrilling two-point win against Richmond – and Langdon hopes the trend can continue.
“We don’t get to play a whole lot of games at the ‘G so when we do play, it’s really important to play well and acclimatise with the ground,” Langdon said.
“That’s where the action happens in September so you want to play well there.”
Fremantle head east coming off an eight-point loss to West Coast on Sunday at Optus Stadium, where Langdon saw an improved effort from Freo in the second half.
West Coast had the upper hand around the contests before Freo fought back after half time.
“It’s certainly going to be a tough ask to going over to face Richmond,” Langdon said.
“I think if we play the brand of footy we played in the second half against West Coast, it’s going to go a long way to us getting the result we can.”
“We came here to get the win but West Coast also came here to play and credit to them. I just thought the first half let us down.”
There was a record-breaking crowd in attendance against the Eagles, with the 56,521 fans the most for a game of football in WA.
“To look up and see there’s 56-odd thousand there was it’s great to see,” Langdon said.
“We loved having the Freo faithful out and supporting us.”
