Fremantle’s top two ruckmen will face a test for selection before Freo take on Essendon at Etihad Stadium on Saturday, according to high performance manager Jason Weber.
Sean Darcy, who limped off late against Port Adelaide on Sunday, is a chance to face Essendon despite a minor groin injury while primary ruckman Aaron Sandilands is making swift progress from his calf injury.
“Sean came off with a groin injury quite late against Port Adelaide,” Weber said.
“Obviously, it gave him a bit of a fright given he’s come off quite a significant knee injury but he’s progressed really well through the medical hoops this week.
“He’ll be a test and we’re hoping to have him available for selection come the end of the week.
“Aaron continues to progress in his rehab. He’ll be a test late into the week but he looks up and about and ready to go.”
According to Weber, Nat Fyfe remains three to four weeks away from selection with a hamstring injury.
“Nat’s progressing along the lines of where we thought he might,” Weber said.
“He’s up and running, training very well with a great attitude. He’s continuing to act like a captain should but he’s a few weeks away yet.”
There’s positive news for Fremantle’s forward stocks, with Matt Taberner a chance to return to football in a fortnight.
“Matt’s obviously had the significant foot issue through this year,” Weber said.
“He’s progressing back to football training this week and we hope to have him available in a couple of weeks.”
Both Andrew Brayshaw (groin) and Hayden Ballantyne (ankle) are listed as one week away and could return for Fremantle in round 19 against Hawthorn.
