Adam Cerra has had a standout debut season and the eighteen-year-old says he is enjoying every minute of it.
Cerra, the No.5 pick in last year's NAB AFL Draft, has been outstanding for Fremantle in a variety of roles, has played every game since making his debut in round two.
Most recently Cerra has moved into Freo’s defence
Cerra's poise under pressure and clean ball use has drawn comparisons to Collingwood skipper Scott Pendlebury.
However, commentary doyen Dennis Cometti went a step further recently, observing that Cerra reminded him of dual Brownlow medallist Chris Judd after stepping into the AFL and looking like he belongs.
While the hype surrounding Cerra has gone into overdrive, especially after his move to half-back saw him collect 30 disposals and a perfect 10 AFL Coaches' Association votes against Adelaide, the 18-year-old is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
"It’s hard to ignore (the hype), it’s always there in the back of your mind but you can’t read too much into that stuff," Cerra said.
"You more focus on what your coaches and what your leaders are telling you at the club.
"I like to stay humble, not get too worked up about that stuff and just control what I can control.
"I reckon the Chris Judd reference is probably more because my shoulders are both strapped.
"He’s a great player and I’ve probably got a fair while to get to his level but it’s a nice thing to hear about yourself.
"I don’t go into games with that stuff at the front of my mind."
Despite Freo fans calling for the young gun to be awarded a NAB Rising Star nomination, Cerra says he is solely focused on team effort as opposed to individual awards.
"It's been mentioned but we don't play for the Rising Star. We're not just playing for a nomination, we're playing to win," he said.
"The last two wins have been huge for us.
"We want to continue that for the rest of the season, that type of footy we're playing with big effort and lots of pressure.
"It gives us confidence, naturally."
