The attendance record for an Australian women's sporting event is in the AFL Women's competition's sights with 40,000 fans expected to flock to watch Fremantle take on Collingwood at Optus Stadium next month. 

More than 25,000 tickets have already been sold for the historic first football match at the world-class Perth venue, which opened its doors to rave reviews on Sunday.

While the Dockers-Magpies clash is set to smash the 24,568 crowd for the first AFLW match between Carlton and Collingwood at Ikon Park, Fremantle is also gunning for the all-time women's sporting record. 

That currently stands at 41,000 spectators for a charity football game at Adelaide Oval in 1929. 

Tickets are just $2 for the Dockers' women's clash with the Magpies on Saturday, February 10 from 4.10pm WST.

"I think our supporters will really rally around this and rally around the girls," Freo coach Michelle Cowan said.

"They've got incredible support from our members and even the broader sporting community as well."

Fremantle will also host its family day at the venue, with the men's team training at Optus Stadium for the first time ahead of the women's match.

"Everyone at the club is so excited for our first season at Optus Stadium to get underway and Sunday’s open day only added to that feeling," CEO Steve Rosich said. 

"It was great to see the looks on the faces of Fremantle members and fans as they saw the incredible views from their new seats for the first time. 

"To those who missed out, the AFLW game will be an even better chance to see the ground, with fans able to take part in history to see the first Australian Rules football game played at the venue."
