Senior coach Ross Lyon believes the best football of Andrew Brayshaw and Adam Cerra is yet to come but he is still thrilled with the young midfielders’ progress to date.
Fremantle took the pair with high picks in the 2017 NAB National Draft, with Brayshaw selected at no.2 and Cerra at no.5.
Lyon was asked about potentially resting Brayshaw during his weekly media conference, after he picked up 10 disposals in Sunday’s clash with Richmond.
“Everyone gets discussed, so we will have a look, but he is a quality young player and he has been fantastic for us,” Lyon said.
“Andy has been strong. We have played him in some different spots because Michael Walters, Darcy Tucker, David Mundy, Nat Fyfe and Reece Conca and have been midfield and he has been squeezed out a bit at times. They are still on massive learning curves.”
Lyon said he’s been impressed with the ability of both players to deliver at AFL level.
The 19-year-olds have handled an increase in their midfield minutes, with Brayshaw rotating from half forward to attend nine centre bounces against the Tigers and Cerra switching from half back to attend five centre bounces.
“They are eight games into their second year,” Lyon said.
“What they have done to maintain their preparation and their attitude and play when they have been physically worn out has been unbelievable.”
“We are still two years off seeing the best of them but they are already strong contributors for us.”
