HBF Fit Fan Craig Kelly has one goal for this competition: he’s aiming to do a 12k run within 64 minutes, to go along with his 64 years. “At the beginning of the HBF Fit Fans competition, I would have described myself as ‘fit but a bit fat,’” jokes Craig. “I want to lose that end bit really, so it’s just the word fit!”
Craig’s been keeping up the physical side of things by going on regular runs, but he has struggled a little with healthy eating. “I’ve got great discipline when it comes to exercise, but I have a hard time applying that discipline to my eating habits. But I’m getting better – I eat sensibly at breakfast time and keep an eye on my portions too. I have to make sure I’m eating enough to fuel my exercise, so it’s just about finding that balance.”
Craig now weighs less than he has for 25 years, which is a significant achievement. He’s aiming to do a half marathon in October, and then adjust his fitness routine to take a bit of pressure off his legs whilst making sure he’s keeping up the positive habits he’s created as part of HBF Fit Fans. “I know ageing is a process we can’t stop – but the fitter I am, the slower I’ll age compared to those who aren’t fit, so I’ll keep this up as long as I can!”
The HBF Fit Fans competition is about improving the health andfitness of 22 Fremantle Dockers fans during the 2014 Toyota AFL season. The 22 HBF Fit Fans have had access to training and nutritioninformation sessions and a host of other health experts for the durationof the season.
