Fremantle Dockers midfielder Connor Blakely helped raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation by honouring Aaron Sandilands’ Purple Haze Pledge on Friday.
Sandilands pledged to donate $100 to Starlight if Blakely agreed to shave the beard he’d been growing since October last year.
Not only did Blakely get rid of the facial hair, but Sandilands showed a potential glimpse into his life after football, displaying a steady hand as he shaved the beard with precision.
Everything Starlight Purple Haze
Blakely said the time in the barber’s chair was well worth the money raised for such a great cause.
“’Sandi’ donated $100 to the Starlight Children’s Foundation for the shave, and it’s going toward a great cause, so I’m happy to do it,” Blakely said.
Blakely also said his new, clean shaven look may even provide some on-field advantages.
“I actually feel a lot lighter, so hopefully I’ll be able to run a bit quicker out there on the track,” he laughed.
“I think a few of the boys were pretty sick of the beard so they were probably happy to see it go, too.”
Talking points: Freo v Gold Coast
It wasn’t just teammates who were happy to see it go, with his father, Mark Blakely also donating $100 for the shave.
The Purple Haze Pledge is your way to get involved and raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation as part of the Starlight Purple Haze game, proudly supported by Fremantle Ports.
