Scans on Monday afternoon have confirmed that Fremantle’s Alex Williams ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee.
Williams came from the ground early in the second quarter of Saturday’s win against Geelong at GMHBA Stadium and took no further part in the game.
AFLW high performance manager Kate Starre said Williams’ injury was a blow to the club.
“This news is devastating not only for Alex, but also for the team,” Starre said.
“She has been doing really well this season and has been such a great contributor to the team on and off the field.
“The medical staff will set an outline of what takes place from here including surgery, post-surgery we will work with Alex on her rehab program.”
