Fremantle will unveil their seventh AFLW debutant this weekend with Brianna Moyes named in the team to take on Collingwood this Saturday at Fremantle Oval at 4.10pm.
In her first year on an AFLW list, Moyes was named as an emergency the past two rounds, but with Gabby O’Sullivan ruled out this weekend with suspension, the 27-year-old will get her opportunity to run out in a Freo jumper.
Having previously played basketball for the Perth Lynx, Moyes was drafted to the Freo Dockers via the 2018 rookie draft, with senior coach Trent Cooper saying her ball use was a positive of her game.
“It’s unlucky Gabby O’Sullivan goes out this week due to suspension, but it created another opportunity for Brianna Moyes who’s been thoroughly deserving of one so far, gets the opportunity to come into our forward line,” Cooper said.
“She’s a left footer and it’s always good to have some left footers in the forward line. She is a really good ball user and goes hard at it as well. We think she can link up and also hopefully hit the scoreboard.”
Laura Pugh is also an inclusion for this Saturday’s game, Cooper saying her height would be vital to stopping a tall Collingwood forward line.
“Laura was really unlucky to come out after round, this week Collingwood have a taller forward line, so Laura will come back in and give us some defensive courage but also some good ball use down there.”
