Andrew Brayshaw said the new rules for the 2019 season would take some getting used to following Fremantle’s JLT Community Series clash with Collingwood at Joondalup Arena.
Fremantle gave away two free kicks and Collingwood one at the centre bounces, with players not getting back into the mandated 6-6-6 positions.
Brayshaw said he remained a believer in the big picture behind the changes.
“They were frustrating at times but I can definitely see why the AFL has implemented it,” Brayshaw said.
“It’s opened up the game heaps and games seem to be higher scoring, so for the fans watching, I’m sure it’s great.
“For us players, we just have to get used to it and definitely with the zone rule, there might need to be a few tweaks for the bigger grounds as it can be really tough to get back into your 50."

Brayshaw impressed with 25 disposals in the clash, helping Freo neutralise Collingwood’s star-studded midfield and win the inside 50s 60-46.
But the 19-year-old admitted that Fremantle would need to work on their delivery, with Freo taking only six marks inside 50.
“I think our penetration into the forward line was really good,” Brayshaw said.
“I think we beat them for forward entries, we got it in there a few times we just have to finish with a bit of polish.
“The fundamentals were definitely there and I thought the boys put in a good effort.”
Following a testing clash in hot conditions, Fremantle have six days to recover before facing West Coast this Sunday at Rushton Park.
“It will be a big six days, the boys have already started their rehydration, ice baths and getting some food in,” Brayshaw said.
“It’s going to be really exciting playing in Mandurah against West Coast and we’re looking forward to taking on a good outfit and taking what we can from Monday’s game and moving forward.”
