Matt Taberner remains a chance for selection in Fremantle’s opening round clash with North Melbourne on Sunday at Optus Stadium.

The forward picked up a minor calf injury playing for Peel in a scratch match ahead of Fremantle’s JLT2 clash on Sunday 10 March.

High performance manager Jason Weber said that Taberner’s return for round one would be dependant on him hitting his targets.

“Matt trained really well on the weekend and we’ve noted all the way along that he’s really KPI based, so he’s ticked some really good boxes,” Weber said.

“He’s still got some requirements this week but unquestionably, he’s heading towards having a chance to play this Sunday.”

Weber said that he was hopeful that midfielder Bradley Hill and defender Griffin Logue would be available to play, with the pair listed as tests for the game.

“Brad’s just had a big cork from JLT2 and he’ll train later this week. Griffin was really good over the weekend. His injury was relatively low-level so he’s progressing nicely,” Weber said.

Weber said that Blakely (hamstring) was on track to play as early as late April, with the midfielder listed as five weeks away from a return.

“Connor’s doing very well and he’s progressing exactly on target. He’s back up and running and he’s regained full strength,” Weber said.

Weber said both Aaron Sandilands (calf) and Stephen Hill (quad) are advancing in their recoveries.

“Aaron’s back to running on field and Stephen is back kicking, so they’re both progressing.” Weber said.

Small forward Sam Switkowski is set to be available for selection in round two, listed as one week away from recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in JLT2.
