Partner Club showdown this Sunday
Fremantle Partner Clubs Ellenbrook and Secret Harbour will go head to head on Sunday afternoon when they clash in the first Fremantle Football Club Youth League
The SUBWAY Restaurants sponsored Fremantle Football Club Youth League is part of the club’s Community Development Programme, which involves 16-17 year olds across Western Australia and has grown to include more than 100 teams throughout the metropolitan area, the Peel region, Albany, Esperance, Geraldton, the Murchison and the South West. The league currently encompasses nine metropolitan and six country competitions.
The FFCYL curtain raisers provide young West Australian’s with the opportunity to make their mark at the home of WA football. Selected teams from the league are given the opportunity to take to Subiaco Oval and play in curtain raisers prior to Fremantle home games throughout the season.
The matches also provide players from FFCYL teams in regional and rural areas a rare opportunity to take part in a match at Subiaco Oval. For some, the games provide their first time trip to Perth and being able to play on Subiaco Oval while on their first trip to the city is something the players remember for life.
Now in its fourth year, the Fremantle Youth League gets under way in mid April and spans over 100 teams and 4000 participants through the Perth metropolitan area and regional centres. It is seen as the pinnacle of junior football in WA and is a stepping stone for junior footballers to realise their potential of playing WAFL or AFL level football.
SUBWAY Restaurants Business Development Manager Brett Higgins said Subway Restaurants was again thrilled to be supporting the Fremantle Football Club Youth League in 2008.
"We are really proud of the association with the Fremantle Football Club and junior football in Western Australia." Mr Higgins said.
"We know how important it is to encourage a healthy lifestyle message towards kids and the Youth League is a terrific avenue to do that." he added.
The Fremantle Football Club Partner Club programme is proudly supported by Members Equity Bank.
